Below freezing temperatures and icy conditions greeted Berkeley County Wednesday morning, as the National Weather Service predicts temperatures to remain below freezing until into the afternoon.
• Berkeley Electric Cooperative line crews are responding to the outages through its service area.
Berkeley Electric Cooperative has experienced outages related to trees contacting the power lines and some lines have been taken down by the heavy weight. Currently, BEC reported outages affecting the heavily wooded areas with approximately 4,000 members affected over a widespread area.
Nearly 5,000 have already been restored as crews worked all through the night at many different locations. Crews will be working until all power is restored.
If you see a downed power line, stay away from the line and report it immediately to BEC.
