DAR donates book to library

General Marion’s Brigade Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) donated “Courageous Kate” to the Berkeley County Library for Christmas.

Moncks Corner Branch Librarian Florence Lewis-Coker accepted the book on behalf of the library from Regent Cathi Lee.

Courageous Kate is a book for young readers’ that tells the story of Kate Barry of South Carolina. This young lady lived during the American Revolution and helped the American troops. Kate gave them information about British troop movements prior to the victorious Battle of Cowpens in January 1781.

Kate Barry has been described as the “Southern Paul Revere.” This acclaimed book was written by award winning South Carolinian author Sheila Ingle.

Sheila Ingle will present a program to General Marion’s Brigade on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. in Moncks Corner. She will speak about several of her books including her latest, “Brave Elizabeth.”
