This was not the way Berkeley Lady Stags Coach Crystal Peace wanted to go into the week’s Region 7AAA schedule.

Sluggish.

And cold.

BHS fell 64-31 to Summerville on Jan. 7.

“It’s frustrating,” Peace said. “To play so well against Timberland and then come back with a game like this. The key is to be consistent and we haven’t played consistent basketball.”

The trouble began for Berkeley at the opening tip. BHS fell behind in the first quarter by a 23-3 score, the only Lady Stags points coming on a field goal by Allayah Jones and a free throw by Brea Liferidge.

The Green Wave were led in the first frame by Zuri Green’s five points and three players tallying four points each.

The Lady Stags showed some life with a 15-point second quarter to close the gap to 33-18 at the half, but Berkeley did not have an answer for the tight Summerville full court press and could only muster 13 points over the final two quarters.

Ashley Green led all scorers with 12 points. Heather Chapman, Ronesha Capers and Zuri Green each chipped in nine points to help pace the Summerville offense.

For the Lady Stags Jonnay Anthony’s 11 points was the only Berkeley player to post in double figures. Tori Ishmael added six points and Jill Funk five points in the loss.

The Lady Stags drop to 4-8 with the loss and opens up their Region 7AAA schedule against Hilton Head this week.
