The Stratford girls basketball team brought back a piece of hardware from the annual Hoops for Hope tournament before Christmas.
The Lady Knights were runners-up in the event, defeating North Charleston in the semifinals before losing to Stall 67-29 in the final.
Alivia Hunter was named all-tournament for the Lady Knights (3-5).
“We wanted the first-place trophy but they were nice enough to give us a second-place trophy,” Stratford coach David Poole said. “… They rattled us. We didn’t have our game. We looked very inexperienced and not composed and that’s my fault for not getting them prepared.”
The Stratford boys (7-2) finished 2-1 in the tournament, beating Charleston Math & Science 65-51 and Ashley Ridge 54-51 over the final two days.
Demetre Rivers was named all-tournament for the Knights. He had 28 in a 56-52 loss to Summerville, 22 against CMS and 13 against Ashley Ridge.
Thad Thompson had 19 points to lead Stratford against Ashley Ridge, while Rashad Palmer chipped in 11 points.
