175 bikes go to Toys for Tots

East Cooper Breakfast Club Rotarian Wayne Cassaday presents Meteorologist Rob Folwer with a Paul Harris Fellow for his continued work with Toys for Tots.

Since 1998 the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club has donated to the annual Toys for Tots drive organized by the United States Marine Corps.

The donations, however, are slightly different than those traditionally collected via service clubs. The East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club collects new bikes of all sizes.

This year the club donated 175 bikes with the help of member donations, a grant and a discount at Super Wal-Mart at Oakland Plantation.

Channel Two Meteorologist Rob Fowler, a familiar face with Toys for Tots, has participated in the club’s annual collection of bikes for years. He was on hand this year as the Marines loaded up the wheels.

And because of his commitment to the community and Toys For Tots, the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club awarded him a Paul Harris Fellow.

When $1,000 is contributed to The Rotary Foundation, a request can be made for an individual to be recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow; that person can be a Rotarian or a member of the community who is not a Rotarian.

When a person is recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, they are presented with a certificate signed by the Rotary International president and the chairman of the trustees of The Rotary Foundation, and a lapel pin and medallion.

A Paul Harris Fellow is a recognition of exceptional service.
