‘Silent guardian’ thwarted

  • Wednesday, January 1, 2014

Dear Editor,

I have lived at Summerville Station on Trolley next door to Oakbrook Developmental School for one year. For one year when I go out for my daily run along the side of the fence that faces me I put back over the fence the toys children throw outside the fence. I never speak to the children and wave when the adult attendants say thank you.

On Wednesday December 18, a knock at my door produced a Summerville Police Lieutenant. Apparently some Individual at the school looking to feel important reported my community service as some kind of imagined threat. I had harsh words with the Cop. It was insulting, and sick, to be considered a threat to children. I was not polite having my integrity questioned. For those of like mind with the Individual who invented this action on my part as threatening, remember it was men, and women, as myself who care for the right reasons who put themselves between the children and the bullets fired at them at the cost of their own lives. There was no reason to not simply mention to me they preferred I no longer gave the toys back and I would have understood. To that Individual, you just took from those children and other strangers, at any time, a silent Guardian who stood on the wall ready to help and protect if God forbid a real threat. You are not smart.
