Crime in the County
The following incidents were obtained from Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office reports:
On Dec. 17 at about 6:20 p.m. North Charleston Police had a man in custody who was wanted by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. He was brought to the detention center and an officer felt the subject was in possession of marijuana due to the odor coming from the back seat, but the officer was unable to locate the contraband. The officer advised the subject that if he brought any contraband into the detention center he would face a felony charge. The officer requested a strip search, which revealed small plastic bags containing a green plant material that appeared to be marijuana. The subject had been hiding the bags inside his nether regions.
On Dec. 17 a Winding Road woman reported that a $2,500 air conditioning unit was stolen from the backyard. The theft is believed to have occurred between Dec. 10 and Dec. 17. The residence was unoccupied and the complainant was there to do some work.
On Dec 17 at about 2 p.m. a deputy responded to reports of stolen gas at a Black Oak Road location in Bonneau. The complainant said at about 11:30 a.m. that day a white male pumped $109 worth of gas into a vehicle. The subject then entered the store to purchase other items. When asked about the gas, he said another person was paying for it. He then got into his white construction van and drove off. The clerk recognized the subject as being from around the area but said he does not know his name. The subject was dressed in the same camouflage shirt and visor he wears most of the time, the clerk said.
