The Goose Creek girls basketball team finished with a 2-1 record in the annual Shootout by the Sea Tournament in North Myrtle Beach Dec 21-23.
The Lady Gators (7-1) were hoping to defend their championship in the event but saw that goal dashed the second night of the tournament, falling to Monacan, Va. 62-41.
Monacan went on to defeat South Florence 69-50 for the championship.
Senior Shakeia Joy earned a spot on the all-tournament team for the Lady Gators by collecting a double-double in each game. On the season, Joy is averaging team highs with 13.9 points and 8.5 rebounds.
They defeated Crestwood 51-28 in their first game and knocked off North Myrtle Beach 46-30 on the last day of the tournament.
Against Crestwood, Mariah Linney and Joy led the way in scoring, pouring in 14 and 13 respectively. Joy had 13 rebounds too.
Semoine Frasier added nine points.
Against Monacan, the Lady Gators fell behind 30-6 at halftime. Joy led in scoring with 18 points and also added 10 rebounds. Frasier also had 10 rebounds.
Against North Myrtle Beach, Joy had 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Linney chipped in 10 points.
