Moncks Corner man dies in shooting

A Moncks Corner man was killed by an apparent gunshot wound in Charleston last week.

Deontre Miles, age 23, of Maplewood Road in Moncks Corner, died at the scene from a gunshot wound at a West Ashley apartment complex at about 8:50 p.m. on Dec. 11.

Thatís according to Charleston County Coronerís Office Deputy Coroner Kelly Kraus.

Kraus said the autopsy was still ongoing as of Dec 12. Kraus added that the incident occurred in the area of Sequoia Street.

According to a Charleston Police Department incident report, in the aftermath of the shooting a large crowd had gathered around a male lying on the ground in front of 639 Sequoia Street. The officer dispersed the crowd away from the subject and directed all parties to go across the street, according to the report.

The officer attempted to talk to the subject but there was no response.
