Shotgun blast leads to arrest

  • Wednesday, December 18, 2013

An altercation in St. Stephen occurred soon after midnight on Dec. 11 when a man was arguing with his stepdaughter’s boyfriend.

When he told the boyfriend to leave, the boyfriend said he had something for him. That’s when the boyfriend reached in the backseat of his girlfriend’s parked car and retrieved a shotgun, according to a Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

He pointed the shotgun at the complainant’s face and racked it. He then turned and fired it once right beside the stepfather’s head.

The boyfriend jumped into the vehicle and sped off. The deputy found three, .20 gauge shotgun shells in the area. Two were live and one was spent. As the deputy was getting information from the victim the suspect drove by.

“That’s him right there,” the victim said.

Two deputies got into their patrol vehicles and pulled him over. No weapon was found in the vehicle.

The suspect was handcuffed and taken to the detention center where he admitted to discharging the firearm. A warrant was drafted for aggravated assault.
