More than 850 kids and the folks who love them turned out in Saturday’s balmy weather to greet Santa and give them their wish list for Christmas at the second Breakfast with Santa hosted by The Summerville Journal Scene.

Chris Zoeller, Regional Advertising and Marketing Director for Summerville Communications and the event coordinator said this year’s crowd was bigger and more enthusiastic than last year.

“We were amazed at how early families came out to see Santa! My favorite part was when we introduced Santa and Summerville welcomed him with such excitement,” Zoeller said.

The event featured Santa (of course) as well as a breakfast of sausage or egg and cheese biscuits and juice provided by Alex’s Restaurant.

Teresa Blitch of Alex’s made 800 biscuits for the breakfast.

“That’s a lot of biscuits – I was still baking at 1 a.m.,” Blitch said, laughing. “This is a great event!” With her were other Alex’s employees, serving breakfast and greeting attendees.

The morning had plenty to keep little hands busy as they waited their turn to sit on Santa’s knee. Craft and activities were set up in the breezeway between the two town hall buildings from First Citizens, Lowcountry Orhtodontics, Nicklas Dental, Pinewood Preparatory School, Summerville Pediatric Dentistry and Realtor, Trina Woods.

Century 21 returned as the North Pole Sponsor and stationed their own Santa’s Helpers to assist with the event.

“We could not host Breakfast with Santa without the amazing support of our local sponsors and the student volunteers. They made the magic happen for Summerville,” Zoeller said.

A highlight of the morning was Mayor Bill Collins reading to the children as they gathered around. This year’s books included “Llama Llama Holiday Drama” by Anna Dewdneg.
