Choice Gymnastics out of Summerville just returned from the Crown of the Carolinas on Nov. 30.
Crown is one of the most prestigious meets in the Southeast and hosted nearly 1,000 gymnasts, including some from as far away as Barbados and the Cayman Islands. Choice faired very well with 74 trips to the podium that included nine first-place all-around awards and 27 first-place finishes on individual events.
Two standout performers on the weekend were Amy Willems, an XCEL Gold level gymnast, and Emma Biron a Level 4. They both received the elusive “crown” this year by earning the highest all-around score in their sessions. Willems also had the second highest all-around score among all 970 gymnasts with a 37.425. Her scores included first place on vault (9.575), bars (9.4) and beam (9.6), and a second place on floor with an 8.850. Biron had a stellar day bringing home the hardware with four first place podium visits earning scores of 9.150 on vault, 9.450 on bars, 9.375 on beam and a 9.275 on floor. She earned 6th place among all gymnasts with an all-around score of 37.250.
Choice was set to compete in the Silver Bells Invitational on Dec. 7-8 at the Hanahan Recreation and Parks Gymnasium.
