The Bishop England Battling Bishops didn’t finish how they wanted to in the Military Magnet Thanksgiving Classic after falling late to the Garrett Tech Falcons Saturday.
Bishop England (1-2) held a one-point advantage in the final minute and sat tied with less than 30 seconds to play. But as the final seconds ticked down, Bishop England fouled Garrett behind the three-point line to set up the go-ahead free throw that would be the difference in the game.
The Bishops were playing for fifth in the tournament Saturday after splitting games in the opening rounds. Bishop England stumbled out of the gate with a with a 52-37 loss to Pinewood Prep Wednesday but regrouped Friday to run away with an 87-46 win over Coastal Christian.
Junior guard B.J. Grevey averaged 18 points through three games to earn All-Tournament honors. Forward Dillon Corbett was a force inside for the Bishops, averaging 15 per game.
“We really took away a lot from this tournament in terms of defining our team,” Bishop England head coach Bryan Grevey said. “The goal in a tournament like this is to develop a rotation, try to see who can help the team the most.”
Bishop England looks to rebound in its home opener Wednesday against Palmetto Christian Academy (1-0) at 8 p.m. The matchup will be the front-end of a two-game series as PCA returns to Bishop England Dec. 10.
“PCA knows us as well as we know them. There’s no secrets,” Coach Grevey said. “Coach (Brian) Stanley does an excellent job with them. It comes down to the hustle plays and doing the small things right to win the game.”
