The teams that have faced one another in the Lower State Finals of 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 will do so again in 2013.

Both teams took care of business Friday night to set up yet another rematch for the Class AA Div. I Lower State Championship on Nov. 27.

The Wolves dispatched Loris 34-12 behind 27 first half points and Dillon downed Lake Marion 45-6.

Daniel Robinson and Bernard V.A. Harmon each scored a pair of touchdowns and quarterback Matt Gabel improved to 7-0 since taking over at quarterback after Timberland’s loss to Berkeley to pace the Wolves’ offense.

“We have shown a lot of resiliency this season and our defense stepped it up big tonight,” said Timberland Coach Art Craig. “We scored to build up a nice lead and our defense shut them down.”

‘Shut them down’ is an understatement as the Timberland defense intercepted a pair of passes and recovered three Loris fumbles to stymie the Lions offense.

Robinson scored the game’s first touchdown on a five-yard run on the Wolves’ opening drive.

After a Za’Von Whitaker recovered fumble to go with his first quarter interception, quarterback Matt Gabel hit Robinson over the middle with a 55-yard touchdown pass to put Timberland up 14-0 with 3:42 left in the first quarter.

“Daniel Robinson reminds me of a young Bruce Ellington,” Craig said. “He’s just a sophomore with unbelievable breakaway speed.”

Bernard V.A. Harmon put the Wolves up 21-0 on a four-yard run early in the second quarter, and Ezekiel Padgett followed with another four-yard TD run five minutes later to give the Wolves a 27-0 lead late into the first half.

Loris broke the ice with just over three minutes remaining in the half on a Levi Moody 17-yard touchdown run to close the gap 27-6 at the half.

In the third quarter Loris showed some life when Bennett Winslow connected with Desmond Dozier on a 23-yard scoring strike to make the score 27-12.

The Lions would draw no closer as Harmon scored his second TD of the night on a five-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

Kickoff at Dillon for the Lower State Championship on Nov. 27 is at 7:30 p.m.
