SSE awarded ‘Keeping the Dream Going’ grant
St. Stephen Elementary is one of only a handful of schools to receive a Keeping the Dream Going Grant. SSE was announced as a recipient in Alexandria, VA on Oct. 24, 2013.
The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and MetLife Foundation announced the winners of the 2013-2014 Sharing the Dream grant program earlier this year. Ten past recipients of Sharing the Dream grants have been awarded $5,000 each to expand projects that were funded in 2003 until 2012.
An additional five grants of $5,000 have been awarded to schools for new projects that build community through global engagement.
Unique to this final year of the Sharing the Dream program, 10 “Keeping the Dream Going” grants of $5,000 each were awarded to principals who received grants in the past to take their Sharing the Dream projects to the next level of excellence. In all, 15 Sharing the Dream grants are being awarded this school year to largely underserved urban and rural elementary and middle schools in 14 states.
MetLife Foundation was created in 1976 to continue MetLife’s long tradition of corporate contributions and community involvement. Today, the Foundation is dedicated to advancing financial inclusion, committing $200 million over the next five years to help build a secure future for individuals and communities around the world.
St. Stephen Elementary Principal Dr. Elaine Norton along with others is grateful to receive the funds again this school year to keep the great program going for their students.
Remington Haley and his dad, Paul, recently went camping and deer hunting.
Seven-year-old Remington didn’t expect to see a wild hog when he came out of his tent! He enjoys telling of how he could not breathe and thought his heart would stop beating. While being adult supervised he shot a male wild hog weighing 175 pounds with 410 buck shot near the Macedonia area. Remington’s granddad Doug and his family are proud of the young hunter for bringing home the bacon.
Happy Birthday this week to Kaitlyn Carr, Otto Carr, Pat Grooms, Miles Jernigan, April Moody, Cindy Wadford and Allan Weiss.
