Earlier this afternoon there was a disabled motorist in the number one lane of the Ravenel Bridge headed toward the City of Charleston (Southbound). Two Mount Pleasant Police Cruisers were dispatched to the area and were assisting the motorist, according to Inspector Chris Helms Public Information Officer for the Mount Pleasant Police Dept.
“One of our cruisers was struck in the rear (the officer was sitting inside his cruiser) by a motorist traveling on the bridge headed southbound,” he said in a statement released moments ago. “The motorist who struck the officer was driving a four door burgundy Scion, hit the officer in the rear of his vehicle and is now disabled in lane number four of the Ravenel. The accident is currently being investigated.”
Emergency responders were sent to assess and care for any injuries. Neither the motorist or the Officer are going to be transported by EMS. The Officers are on scene and are clearing up the accident and report the bridge should be open in the next 10 minutes or so.
