Habitat information session Thursday
Habitat for Humanity of Berkeley County (berkeleyhabitat.org) will hold a community information session at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26 at at the Kennedy Center in Goose Creek (96 Wisteria Drive in Goose Creek).
Come learn more about Habitat for Humanity and our work in Berkeley County. There will be a wide variety of volunteer opportunities, including in construction, family services, and at the ReStore, to name a few. Light refreshments will be served.

Lions meet Sept. 30
The Goose Creek Lions Club is looking for volunteers. The club meets the second and last Monday of each month, at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 141 St. James Avenue in Goose Creek. All are welcome.
The next meeting is Sept. 30.
The club’s goal is to serve the local community for needs in the areas of diabetic services, vision and hearing loss.

Alzheimer’s support groups continue
The local Alzheimer’s Association has three caregiver support groups in the area held at different locations on the second Monday of each month.
Locations are Metro North Church (5:30-6:30 p.m.) at 109 Central Avenue in Goose Creek; Moncks Corner Medical Center (11 a.m – noon) on N. Live Oak Drive, and the Otranto Road library (1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) in North Charleston.

Metro North Church garage sale Saturday
Metro North Church will hold a church-wide garage sale inside the church building located at 109 Central Avenue in Goose Creek on Saturday Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"Metro North doesn't hold garage sales very often and the members of the congregation have been saving items to donate for a very long time,” event organizer Jacqui Schley said. “There will be incredible bargains.”

Mental illness support group meets weekly
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) Berkeley is a weekly support group for those who suffer from a mental illness and for those whose friend or loved one does.
The support group meets every Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church (510 St. James Avenue) in the All Ministers Center (behind the church) in Room 5 from 7-8 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to visit and support those with mental illnesses such as depression and bipolar disorder.

Free lunch served weekly
Come for free lunch and fellowship every Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m to 1 p.m at the Goose Creek United Methodist Church.
The Lord's Ladle Cafe is located in the church fellowship hall at 142 Redbank Road. The menu includes homemade soups, sandwiches, desserts and beverage. Free bakery items often available when donated.

Farmer’s Market open Wednesdays
The Goose Creek Farmer’s Market is open on Wednesdays from 2-7 p.m. at the ReStore (1 Belknap Road in Goose Creek). The market will remain open until Oct. 30.
VFW Steak Night continues
VFW Post 10256/Ladies Auxiliary at 104 Stephanie Drive in Goose Creek holds Steak Night on the fourth Saturday of each month from 6-8 p.m.
Dinner includes one rib-eye steak or chicken with baked potato, salad and a vegetable, and Texas toast. Cost is $10 eat-in, and $11 carryout. Guests are welcome.

Tea Ladies meet first Wednesday
The Tea Ladies of the St. James Goose Creek Parish meet on the first Wednesday of each month. The group meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Berkeley Electric Co-op Building at 2 Springhall Drive in Goose Creek.

Immaculate Conception Church’s annual “Giant Yard Sale” will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. The church is located at 510 St. James Avenue in Goose Creek.
Free computer classes
The Public Computer Center at Trident Technical College’s Berkeley Campus is offering the following computer courses to the public, free of charge.
• Thursday, Sept. 26: Questions and Answers, 3 p.m.
• Saturday, Sept. 28: Working with Hyperlinks, 11 a.m.
All course participants will need to bring a USB flash drive to save their work.

Post’s Turkey Shoot under way
The American Legion Post 166’s Great American Turkey Shoot began on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. and will continue Wednesday through Saturday all the way to Nov. 27.
The public is invited to attend.
For the youngsters 12 and under, a junior shoot will be held every Saturday at 5 p.m. beginning Oct. 5, under the watch full eyes of skilled range masters.
The Post provides all equipment you need but you may bring your own shotgun if you so desire.

C of C announces lectures
The College of Charleston's Center for Creative Retirement hosts weekly lectures at the St. Joseph Family Life Center (1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd. in West Ashley). The lectures begin at 1 p.m.
On Oct. 1, the two lectures will be the MUSC School of Medicine, and English Literature and the Birth Of Protestantism.
The Oct. 8 topics will be The Hospitality Program and Changes in Medicine.
