Lady Cavs roll over Knights 3-1

Riding a strong service game from Dori Kelly and Savanna Taylor, the St. John’s Lady Cavalier volleyball team rolled past Faith Christian 3-1 last week, winning 25-12, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-10.
Kelly set the tone for the match with eight straight services points to start the match, with seven of those serves aces, and Taylor put the exclamation point with nine service points, closing out game one with an ace.
In game two, Kelly again got the ball rolling with five service points to open the game. Amber Lewis put the game away at the net with six kills and two big blocks.
The Lady Knights found life in the third game jumping out to a 15-10 lead. SJCA fought back to cut the lead to 18-17 with Chastity Weatherford’s two aces and a big kill by Taylor.
Taylor’s strong service game helped SJCA knot the score at 21-21 but the Lady Knights would pull away to notch their lone win of the match 25-21.
In the fourth and final game of the match the Lady Cavs jumped out to a 6-2 lead and never looked back.
A monster spike by Hayley Singletary put SJCA up 7-3 and Taylor took over with a pair of aces to help extend the Cavalier lead to 16-8. Rebecca Ostero’s three big aces put SJCA on top 22-9.
A Lewis dink made the score 23-9. After a trading of service points, she closed out the match with an ace 25-10.
The Lady Cavs improve to 6-5 in match play and were to play Lowcountry Prep and Clarendon Hall on Monday and Tuesday.
The SJCA Lady Cavaliers volleyball team is Cheyenne Oliver, Amber Lewis, Ellie Gilmore, Christiana Mitchum, Chastity Weatherford, Hayley Singletary, Dori Kelly, Savanna Taylor, Rebecca Ostero and Cassie Haines.
