The Berkeley Lady Stags tennis team continues to blow through the competition at the start of the 2013 season, winning its fifth match in a row with a 5-2 victory over Summerville last week.
Elliott Huxford’s consecutive set winning streak continued into the season’s fifth match. She won her 10th straight set 6-0, 6-1 to lead the way. Other singles winners were Jill Funk 6-0, 6-4; Caroline Lamprecht, 6-2, 6-1; Camren Tedder, 6-1, 6-2; and Lauren Jackson, 6-2, 6-3.
The Lady Stags doubles teams lost close matches in tiebreakers. Laura Futrell and Abigayle Ashabraner fell 6-3, 4-6, and 9-11 in the tiebreaker. Logan Ponce and Sara Giannelli fell 6-7, 6-0 and 11-13 in the tiebreaker.
According to Coach Joe Harnage this is a BHS team that has been around awhile.
“We have players here with five and six years of varsity tennis experience,” he said. “There is a lot of experience on this team.”
The Lady Stags improve to 5-0 on the season and were to host Ashley Ridge on Monday. The loss was the first of the year for Summerville (4-1).
