The Palmetto Christian football team held on for a crucial region victory this past Friday night at Hilton Head Prep, 56-50.
Hilton Head Prep scored 27 points in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles’ 48-23 lead heading into the final period proved to be too much to overcome. Senior quarterback J.T. Waters carried the ball 40 times for 243 yards and five touchdowns and added 135 passing yards and another touchdown to lead Palmetto Christian to a 1-0 region record.
Senior tailback Ryan Roe carried the ball 21 times and gained 148 yards and two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Will Tuchfarber caught Waters’ only touchdown pass. Palmetto Christian (3-1) achieved 20 first downs throughout the game.
On defense, junior Martinez Finley and freshman Tommy Gunn each had six tackles. Roe, who also plays defensive back, recorded one of two team sacks – Gunn had the other. The Eagles also forced and recovered two fumbles.
