Bishop England football coach John Cantey has repeatedly said the Battling Bishops must be able to run the ball with success in order to win.
Bishop England defeated Academic Magnet, 48-21, this past Friday in North Charleston behind 358 yards of total offense – 336 of that was rushing.
After tallying 180 yards a week prior, senior tailback Nick Shiver continued to impress with 135 yards on six carries and two touchdowns. Fellow senior David Aller also had a solid night in the backfield, as he ran five times for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, defensive back Ryan McFadden and linebacker Lucas Shiver each had nine tackles. Tyler Ford added five tackles and recovered a fumble in the Raptors’ end zone.
Academic Magnet (2-2) sophomore tailback Nate Schlosser had 108 rushing yards on 24 carries. Schlosser also caught four passes for 36 yards and two touchdowns. Nate Anderson, at 5 feet 10 inches and 225 pounds, bruised his way for 85 yards on 13 carries, including a trip to pay dirt.
It was Bishop England’s second win of the season, and first region game, after starting 0-2. The Bishops host North Charleston (0-4) on Friday.
