Volunteers needed for river cleaning
Volunteers needed to help Friends of Berkeley Blueways clear and develop a water trail on the South Fork of the Edisto River.
The Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce is interested in working with individuals and groups interested in promoting the recreational uses of the portion of the Edisto River that forms the Berkeley County border with Orangeburg County. The Chamber believes the South Fork of the Edisto River can be a popular destination for paddlers.
Before canoe and kayakers can enjoy this amazing river, volunteers are needed to help clear the river of limbs and trees that are blocking the paddler’s ability to navigate our stretch of the Edisto.
Ultimately, 35 miles of river from Claude’s Landing all the way to Zig Zag Landing will need to be cleared. The first phase is to clear the 7-mile section between Bobcat Landing on U.S. 301 and Brabham Landing on Cannon Bridge Road.
To introduce the canoe and kayak enthusiast to the Berkeley County stretch of the Edisto, a couple of events are being planned on the river after the clearing of this first section is completed.
On Saturday, Oct. 26 the first Canoe and Kayak race from Bobcat Landing to Brabham Landing is planned.
Visit the chamber’s Facebook page for more information on the race and cleanup.
