Former St. John’s Christian Academy football coach Bill McCall has been named to the South Carolina High School Football League’s review panel.
McCall was appointed to the review board by District 100 Rep. Eddy Southard, giving the area much needed representation with SCHSL.
“Bill McCall is the perfect candidate to fill this position,” Southard said. “He’s a football man and he’s local, and will give the area a voice in future disputes.”
McCall’s appointment comes following the disqualification of Goose Creek from the 2012 Class AAAA football playoffs for using an ineligible player.
“In future disputes the district at least will have a voice in any proceedings,” Southard said.
For McCall, who stepped down as St. John’s football coach in June after 12 seasons, he is honored being named to the panel.
“I am looking forward to working on this panel,” he said. “I believe each appeal should be given special consideration and the impact of each decision needs to be considered.”
McCall said he represents the first congressional district on the 10-member panel.
“There is a representative from each congressional district and three members who are appointed from the governor, lieutenant governor and House speaker,” he said. “When a ruling by the high school league is appealed, it will go before this panel instead of the high school league.”
Along with his 12 years of coaching experience at SJCA, McCall was a member of two state championship teams at Berkeley in 1994 and 1996. McCall was also named Coach of the Year in SCISA Region III from 2009 through 2012.
McCall is a graduate of Charleston Southern University and employed by Santee Cooper.
