Trident Health will offer free Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) screenings at Trident Medical Center’s Ambulatory Care Center on Saturday, September 7 from 8 a.m. until noon. Sometimes known as “poor circulation,” PAD affects 8 million Americans and is the most common form of peripheral vascular disease. If left untreated, the disease can lead to complications of the toes, feet and legs.
Risk factors include: age greater than 55, history or current smoker, family history of diabetes, peripheral arterial disease or stroke, pain in legs when walking. “A simple screening exam, called an ABI (ankle-brachial index), can accurately detect PAD in most cases,” said Allison Walters, AVP Cardiovascular Services at Trident Health. “This test takes only a few minutes and is completely painless – we call it “noninvasive testing” because it requires no injections or other invasive procedures.”
If you have one of the risk factors noted above, register for this free screening by contacting Consult-A-Nurse at 843-797-FIND (3463).
