Under the artistic direction of Larisa Dahabi, the non-profit youth dance company has been producing full-length works such as “The Nutcracker,” “Coppélia,” “Etudes” and “The Tale of Snow White” in the Lowcountry since 2005. The 27 company dancers will premiere this new ballet after five months of preparation. The company membership consists of various ages and backgrounds from all over the Charleston area. Georgia Hunt, a sophomore vocal student at Charleston County School of the Arts will dance the role of Belle. The role of the Beast will be performed by Joseph Nguyen, a local danseur who specializes in urban dance and Colton Berger, a Citadel cadet. Nguyen also dances the role of Gaston. The handcrafted costumes, designed by Dahabi, help create the spectacle of this charming production.
After this production comes to a close the company will begin rehearsal for their annual presentation of “The Nutcracker” at Charleston Southern University’s Lightsey Chapel Auditorium on Dec. 7 and 8. Be sure to check the company’s website for upcoming events.
