A new Wilderness Survival course offered through Trident Technical College, Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development, will prepare participants for hiking and camping.
During this three-day course, students will learn basic first aid and wilderness first aid, including environmental issues and survival skills. Additional skills taught in the class include bleeding control, shock management, heat and cold emergency management, animal bite/insect sting treatment, water procurement, shelter building, fire starting and maintenance, compass navigation, and evacuation techniques.
Students will earn the American Safety and Health Institute Wilderness First Aid and CPR card, and will create their own emergency first aid kit to take on their next adventure ($100 value, included).
This course meets 6-10 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $189. Participants can choose from the following dates: September 20 to 22; October 18 to 20 or November 15 to 17.
