  • Thursday, August 1, 2013

Downtown Summerville’s historic James F. Dean theatre is home to Summerville’s  Flowertown Players. The Flowertown Players is a nonprofit theatre that features local talent. Heather Pallay Friend of help manager had her own thoughts about the emphasis of the theatre.
“The Flowertown Players is truly a theatre by the community, for the community,” Pallay said.
Currently, the theatre is asking for volunteers to assist with the upkeep of the theatre.
“Although our staff and current volunteers work tirelessly to ensure our facilities are kept up throughout the year, we are in need of deep cleaning and reorganization as we prepare to open the 2013-2014 season.” Pallay said.
The theatre is pursing volunteers for various available jobs such as, general cleaning, filing data, straightening of costume shop, hedge trimming etc. There are gifts volunteers can receive from The Flowertown Players for their hospitality. The volunteer with the most hours will receive seasonal membership from the theatre. Also, if you are searching for a place to fulfill community service hours, the theatre is offering that as well. If you are interested in volunteering, you may come in Wednesday through Saturday between 12 and 6 p.m.
The Flowertown Players will dance into there new season with the upcoming showing of “Grease,” which begins tonight at 8 p.m. Everyone has volunteered this month has be entered in a contest to win one or two pair of tickets to the season opener “Grease.”
Future showings and upcoming plays for this season can be found on their website, www.flowertownplayers.org.
