Quarters community enjoys reunion
The second Santee Hardwood Quarters Reunion was recently held at the
Willie Gamble American Legion Post 247 in St. Stephen.
Former and present residents of the Quarters community located in the heart of St. Stephen enjoyed a fun weekend beginning on July 5 with a fish fry and ending with a banquet on July 6.
Former residents came from as far as Indiana, Connecticut, Georgia, Ohio, and North Carolina. Of course many current local residents were also in attendance and everyone enjoyed the food, fun and fellowship!
Members of the reunion committee included Venezula Ford, Leroy Wright, Willie L. Bulter and Willie Gamble, who served as chairperson. Program participants included Diane Darby, Calvin R. Gerald, Robert Johnson and Gwendolyn Mazyck.
Residents from the Quarters have always experienced a special type of camaraderie and have always said that though their lives have taken them in many directions, their roots always bring them back home at some point and time to the Quarters.
