Can the Trojans repeat?

  • Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Dan Brown/Independent - The Cross Trojans are hard at work over the summer getting ready to defend their 2012 Class A Div. II State Championship.

The summer for the Cross Trojans football team has been spent trying to find a quarterback and filling some big holes on defense.
CHS Head Coach Shaun Wright brought home the Trojans’ first-ever state title in 2012 and will defend that state crown in the fall. “Workouts have gone really well, especially for the younger players,” Wright said.
Wright has not been working consistently with a full squad as many of his seniors have been busy over the summer working jobs. “We’re not as far along as we will be,” he said. “But I expect to have our entire offense in by early August.”
Wright has to replace four-year starter Branford Halls, his 2012 quarterback who, along with all-state running backs Devontae Shepherd and Dionte and Diamonte Evans, led the Trojans to the Class A Division II state championship.
“Our seniors have been busy working jobs and we are not as far along as we will be,” he said. “As far as quarterbacks go we have two young men working their tails off which has made for great competition. We are trying to see who can get us in and out of the huddle with confidence. We won't ask them to win games just manage the players around them.”
