Beaufort – Cody Smith scattered three hits over five innings and fanned eight batters as Goose Creek Post 166 picked up a 3-2 road victory over Beaufort on Thursday night. The win avenged two earlier losses to the Ospreys.
Reliever Chris Zurcher threw the final four scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out seven batters, to earn the save. He navigated through some threatening situations on the way in. He stranded the bases loaded in the sixth and Beaufort had runners on the corners in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Austin Timm was 2 for 4 with an RBI while Chris Singleton drove in a run with a sacrifice fly for Goose Creek.
Timm scored on an error in the first inning to give Post 166 a 1-0 lead and Singleton's sac fly in the second made it 2-0.
Beaufort trimmed its deficit in half in the third inning but Timm's RBI single in the fourth inning answered to make it 3-1.
Beaufort's lone other run came in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Post 166 is set to travel to Moncks Corner on Friday. Goose Creek defeated Moncks Corner 9-4 on Monday of this week.
