†Bill McCall, football coach at St. John’s Christian Academy has resigned.
According to SJCA Athletic Director Bob Winters, McCall tendered his resignation effective June 1.
“Coach McCall said he wishes to pursue his Master’s degree in order to continue his career,” Winters said.
McCall, who has guided the Cavaliers football program for the past seven years, took SJCA to the SCISA 8-Man Football state championship game in 2012. The Cavs fell in an 8-man barn burner 58-42 to Wardlaw.
“We want to thank Coach McCall for his service to our school,” Winters said. “He was not only a fine coach but served equally as well as Christian role model for our athletes.”
Winters added that McCall is a true coach able to get the most out of the talent he had available.
“I personally believe that his knowledge of offensive football is unsurpassed at any level of high school football. We wish him nothing but the best and want ‘Coach Bill’ to know that he is always welcome at SJCA. He will be very difficult to replace.”
McCall, who finishes with a career mark of 68-47 and the 2012 SCISA 8-Man Football Lower State Champions, cited longtime Berkeley Stags great and Hall of Famer Francis Wilson as an inspiration and mentor when it came to football.
“In 2001, varsity football was started with Francis Wilson as the head coach.† He taught me as a player and a coach about the importance of tough love and began steering me in the direction of the importance that consistency makes in a young person’s life.”
The Cavaliers enter the summer in search of a head football coach.
“We are currently seeking candidates to coach football,” Winters said.
