Crime in the County

  • Wednesday, June 5, 2013

The following incidents were obtained from Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office reports:
• A Pinopolis woman reported her pickup truck stolen on May 28. The truck was recovered when it was found at a scrap yard the next day.
The victim said the vehicle (valued at $2,000) is a 1998 Chevy Sonoma with a shattered windshield and a crushed roof. That afternoon a complainant purchased the vehicle from a suspect for $150. Because the suspect had no keys or title for the vehicle he took down the information from the suspect’s driver’s license and obtained his thumbprints. When the complainant went to an auto salvage facility he learned the vehicle was listed as stolen and contacted authorities. The vehicle was removed from NCIC.
• A complainant reported that between 12:30 and 12:45 p.m. on May 29 an unknown subject made an attempt to steal the air conditioning unit from a church off Wassamassaw Lane near Moncks Corner. The unit, located near the church kitchen, was partially disassembled.
A deputy thoroughly searched the property and collected a metal sidewall that was turned in to forensics as evidence.
• A Goose Creek man reported that nearly $1,500 of rebar was stolen from two construction sites on Bald Cypress Drive near Moncks Corner. The items went missing sometime between May 24 and May 27. Stolen items include rebar No. 31 and No. 69 ($1,000), rebar holding chairs ($80) and poly bolts ($400).
At the time of the report there were no suspects.
