Dan Brown/Independent -- Moncks Corner Mayor Bill Peagler announces his candidacy for Berkeley County Supervisor. --

Moncks Corner Mayor Bill Peagler is running for Berkeley County Supervisor, and will seek the Republican nomination for the seat. Peagler announced his candidacy at the Berkeley County Republican Breakfast in Goose Creek on Saturday.
Peagler told the crowd of approximately 200 Republicans that he is not running against any individual.
“This is not a race against (current supervisor) Dan Davis,” Peagler said. “I’m running to represent the people of Berkeley County.”
Peagler has been mayor of Moncks Corner since 2005 and is currently in his third term of office.
“The taxpayers of Berkeley County are our customers,” Peagler said. “We must remember that our taxpayers are our customers and customer satisfaction is paramount. I want to work for you.”
Peagler said his platform will develop based on taxpayer needs and feedback.
“I will be proactive and open to suggestions,” he said. “I will work with each county council member in each district to address their needs. We must work with each other as a team.”
Peagler added that the key to success is cooperation.
“We can accomplish a lot if we work together,” he said. “When you work together you can add one plus one and make three.”
Peagler is the first candidate to announce for the position. Davis was elected in 2006 and is in the middle of his second term.
“We have to increase our tax base in Berkeley County,” said Peagler, who also promised to work together with the leaders across the county. “The people who live in these towns also pay county taxes. It’s important to work with these municipalities.”
The Republican primary will be held in June of 2014, with the general election in November 2014.
“Our mission is to service the people of Berkeley County,” Peagler said. “All I want to do is help make this a better place.”
Saturday’s breakfast was held at American Legion Post 166.
