The Father John J. McCarthy Council (No. 12472) of the Knights of Columbus, in association with Charleston's Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, will host the Third Annual Walk for HOPE (Helping Other People Everyday) on Saturday,
May 18 from 9 a.m. to noon, on the Charleston/West Ashley Greenway, the section between Coburg Road and Folly Road Boulevard. 
Registration is $10 with the proceeds benefiting the Carolina Children's Charity.

Free computer classes continue in May

 The Public Computer Center at Trident Technical College's Berkeley Campus is offering the following computer courses to the public, free of charge.
• Tuesday, May 14: Intermediate Microsoft Word, 3 p.m.  
• Thursday, May 16: Microsoft Publisher, 3 p.m.
• Saturday, May 18: Using Microsoft Templates, 11 a.m.
• Tuesday, May 21: Microsoft Excel, 3 p.m.
• Thursday, May 23: Microsoft Excel, 3 p.m.
• Tuesday, May 28: Microsoft Access, 3 p.m.                     
• Thursday, May 30: Questions and Answers, 3 p.m.
All course participants will need to bring a USB flash drive to save their work.
Berkeley Campus is located at 1001 S. Live Oak Dr. (Hwy 17-A), Moncks Corner. The Public Computer Center is located in the Learning Resources Center (Library), Room 106C. Please call 899.8029 to register or for more information.    
The Public Computer Center is funded by a U.S. Department of Commerce grant to increase broadband education, awareness, and training and access. The Public Computer Center, a Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, is an initiative of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration that is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. 

Spring Hill supper June 1

The Spring Hill United Methodist Church is sponsoring a spaghetti supper (spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, tea and dessert) for $7 on Saturday, June 1 from 5 until 7 p.m. in the church's social hall. The church is located at the intersection of Old Guillard and Spring Hill Church roads in the Sandridge Community.   
Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased from Debbie at 688-5519 or Teresa at 688-4169, or ask any church member and they will be glad to get tickets for you.  All proceeds will go the building fund.

Plant sale Saturday

The Friends of Cypress Gardens non-profit plant, flower and tree sale will take place May 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Cypress Gardens.
Master Gardeners will answer your gardening questions. Bring two cups of dry soil to be sent off for soil test ($6 fee).

Shrine Club announces Friday dinners

The public is invited every Friday night to the Berkeley Shrine Club: a spaghetti dinner is set for every first Friday; a potluck dinner is every second Friday; a fish fry is every third Friday; and a steak dinner is every fourth Friday. The cost of each dinner varies.

Clemson Extension offers canning classes

Canning season has arrived, and Clemson Extension Service is offering food preservation classes again in 2013.
Classes will teach participants how to use current, USDA-tested canning methods to preserve foods. The first class will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 at Cypress Gardens. The cost is $30.

Foster parents appreciation banquet Saturday

May is National Foster Parent Appreciation Month, and Berkeley County DSS is holding a Foster Parents and Caregivers Appreciation Banquet on Saturday, May 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at New Life Christian Fellowship Church (402 Liberty Hall Road in Goose Creek). 
The Foster Parent of the Year will be announced by DSS, along with the recognition of caregivers and volunteers. 
Dr. Dexter Easley and the New Life Church is hosting the free event, which is open to all.

Ladies Auxiliary steak night first and third Saturday

 The Ladies Auxiliary VFW holds steak night the first and third Saturday of every month. The cost is $10.
The Auxiliary's regular monthly meeting is the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m.; trivia nights are held on the first and fourth Mondays of the month.

Vendors sought for county music series

The City of Goose Creek will host “Sounds of Summer,” a six-week outdoor concert series, 6-8 p.m. every Friday from May 24 – June 28.
All types of food vendors are needed for this event. Interested vendors should complete an application.

The free event will be held at Crowfield Golf Club in Goose Creek.
