Child OK after being taken from school

A child who was apparently unlawfully removed by her mother from a Goose Creek school this morning was reported safe when police tracked down and detained the woman and child about 30 minutes later. At about 8:15 a.m. Thursday a 26-year-old white female removed who is believed to be her 4-year-old daughter from Westview Primary School and departed the area in a black Mitsubishi convertible with a Florida license plate, according to information released by the Goose Creek Police Department. Initial reports were that this individual was not believed to have legal custody of the child in question. GCPD units responded to the school and took positions along major arteries departing the city. A BOLO (Be On Look Out) was broadcast to surrounding agencies while information to activate the AMBER Alert system was gathered, according to GCPD At approximately 8:45 a.m., GCPD was notified that a trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol had stopped the suspect vehicle near the 187-mile marker on I-26 westbound. The trooper verified that the child was safe and as of the time of this release was detaining the vehicle and occupants pending the arrival of GCPD investigators. The investigation continues.
