Two former Moncks Corner Town Councilmen and a longtime town clerk passed away earlier this month within four days of one another.
Former councilman Carol Sellers died on April 12; former town clerk Grace Wall died on April 14; and former councilman Darr Sullivan passed away on April 16.
“Moncks Corner was honored to have these three dear professionals faithfully serve our community,” Moncks Corner Mayor Bill Peagler said in a letter to the editor. “We extend our deepest sympathy to the families.”
Darr Fred Sullivan of Moncks Corner died on April 16, 2013, in Wilmington, NC at the age of 94.
Born Nov. 17, 1918, in McClellanville, Mr. Sullivan began working with Berkeley Electric Co-Op as a truck driver in 1946 and retired as manager of operations and engineering in 1981. Elected to Moncks Corner Town Council on Feb. 18, 1997, he served as mayor pro tem for a short period of time during his tenure.
Mr. Sullivan served until 2001, when he chose not to run for re-election.
Carol William Sellers Sr. of Moncks Corner, a retired industrial specialist for the Charleston Naval Shipyard and also a former councilman, died Friday, April 12 in a local nursing home. He was 84.
Mr. Sellers was on town council from 1986 to 1991.
Virginia "Grace" Sweatman Wall died on April 14 at the age of 93. Mrs. Wall was born in Moncks Corner, and was an employee of the town for 42 years. Ten of those years saw Mrs. Wall serve as the Moncks Corner Clerk and Treasurer. She also worked for the Moncks Corner Water Works for 20 years.
