St. John’s hurler Luke Hutto fired a one-hitter and Dustin Parsons hit a grand slam to lead the Cavaliers to a 10-0 win over Orangeburg Christian in SCISA baseball action last week.
In addition to the win over Orangeburg, the Cavs edged Coastal Christian 5-4 before falling 13-4 to Porter Gaud on Friday.
The Cavs plated two runs in the first when Joe Denton reached on an error, stole second, and advanced on Hunter Singletary’s single. After a walk to Dustin Parsons, Britt Pipkin delivered the inning’s big blow, a 2-RBI base hit to left to score Denton and Singletary.
In the second inning SJCA blew the game open with a four-run frame, keyed by Parson’s grand slam home run.
Evan Hammond’s 2-RBI single highlighted a four-run fifth inning that put the game away for the Cavaliers.
Hutto went the distance for the win, allowing just one hit, a leadoff single and striking out three.
In the 5-4 win over Coastal Christian the Cavaliers pounded out 8 hits. Joe Denton went 2 for 4 and Britt Pipkin 2 for 3 to pace St. John’s. Pipkin picked up the win on the mound. He scattered five hits and walking just two hitters.
In the 13-4 loss to Porter Gaud, the Cavaliers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead but couldn’t hold on as the Cyclones erupted for 10 runs over the game’s final three innings to seal the win.
Singletary and Denton each scored in the first on a pair of singles and stolen bases, and in the second William Brown rapped a single up the middle, stole second and then scored on John Fondra’s RBI base knock.
The Friday night tilt against Faith Christian was postponed due to rain and will be played this week in addition to home contests Thursday and Friday against Andrew Jackson Academy and Academic Magnet. First pitch for all games is at 5 p.m.
