Weekly roundup: East Cooper schools boast dominant soccer programs

When the Wando girls soccer team wins, the Warriors do so in shut-out fashion. Wando is 4-1 overall and 1-0 in 4A Region 7 play. Statistics were not available from the Warriors' Thursday night game against Stratford at press time.

In all of their victories, they've been shut outs. They travel to Cane Bay, April 12.

The Wando boys soccer team is powering through its schedule so far this season, remaining perfect through eight games with a combined score against opponents of 42-7. That includes a 3-0 record against region foes.

The Warriors defeated Stratford 3-0 this past Thursday night to give coach Shilo Tisdale his 150th win. Wando hosted Tennessee power Dobyns-Bennett, Tuesday night, after press time.

Bishop England

The Bishop England girls soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision at Augusta Preparatory Day School, March 22. The Battling Bishops dipped to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in 2A Region 6 play. They will look to rebound at Woodland, April 9.

The Bishop England boys soccer team is riding a 5-game winning streak. The Bishops defeated Hoover (Ala.) 2-0 two weeks ago and host Clover on Wednesday.

Academic Magnet

The Academic Magnet girls soccer team took an 8-game winning streak into the Easter break, a dominating stretch that includes seven consecutive shutouts and a combined score of 65-2.

Heading into their April 9 game against North Charleston, the Raptors are 12-1and 5-0 in 2A Region 6.

The Academic Magnet boys soccer team defeated Pinewood Prep, 2-0, this past Wednesday to move its record to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in region action. The Raptors host North Charleston, April 9.


Bishop England

The Bishop England softball team is seeing its challenging non-region schedule to start the season pay off during region play. The Battling Bishops are 5-1 in 2A Region 6, including four wins by more than 15 runs.

Bishop England's Tuesday night game against Middlesboro (Ky.) was completed after the Moultrie News went to press.


The Wando softball team entered Tuesday night's contest against Brockport (N.Y.) with an 11-2 overall record and riding a 4-game winning streak.

When scoring more than three runs, the Warriors are 10-0.


Bishop England

The Bishop England baseball team joined the Hanahan Invitational field having won nine of its first 10 contests. Prior to their Monday night game in the opening round of the tournament against Kellam (Va.), the Bishops are allowing just 2.5 runs per game.


The Wando baseball team looks to rebound from a two-game losing streak in the competitive Hanahan Invitational tournament this week. The Warriors started play Monday against North Laurel (Ky.), but stats were not available at press time.

Wando lost to James Island and Cane Bay this past week.
