One of the things I enjoy about South Carolina is that I can move as fast as I want to or as slow as I want to. When I lived in New York everything seemed so rushed. To keep my life balanced was a big challenge.
Not so here.
I plan what I want to accomplish for the warm weather months. I suggest you pick two or three projects you want to accomplish before fall rolls around. Projects that are meaningful to you. They might better your life. They might better someone else’s life. They could be joint ventures or solo projects.
A group of men pooled their talents and repaired the roof of a senior’s house. Their labor was donated free of cost. One gentleman I know worked with a group of junior high students over a two-week period of time to complete a community service project. Some of the most meaningful things we can do are things we do for others or for our community.
Look around and ask yourself what can I contribute not just to my personal life, or my family life; but the community of which I am a part.††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††
A self-improvement program for you would not be a bad idea, either. The usual suspects at this time of the year are the weight loss projects and the exercise programs as people begin to get in shape for summer. So many people fail miserably at these projects.
There are reasons why. To succeed you must have endurance. You cannot be someone who gives up easily.
Whatever project you are working on, but especially self improvement projects you have to learn to stay with it. At the sign of the least discomfort some people quit. If losing weight or exercising and staying fit was easy don’t you think everyone would be fit, trim and healthy.†
If abstaining from unhealthy fatty foods was easy there would be a lot less unhealthy people walking around. But it takes discipline and self control and some people lack those things.
When working on a project it is one day at a time, one pound at a time. Don’t expect miracles, expect continuous incremental improvements.
When you achieve victory in one area of your life you are encouraged to try other things. Don’t be afraid or be fearful of trying. A lot of people never get up and do anything because they doubt themselves and they fear failure.
Actually, not trying because you fear failure means that you have already failed.
