Cross man dies

  • Wednesday, April 3, 2013

A Cross man died at the scene of an afternoon traffic accident on March 27.
According to Berkeley County Deputy Coroner Darnell Hartwell, Joel Richardson was traveling west on Old Highway 6 when his 1997 Ford Ranger ran off the right side of the roadway.
The vehicle traveled several hundred feet before it struck a tree, Hartwell reported.
According to Hartwell, a witness reported that Mr. Richardson had slumped over to the right side of the vehicle before hitting the tree. There was no trauma to his body.
Hartwell pronounced Mr. Richardson dead on the scene.
After the investigation by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the Highway Patrol, Deputy Hartwell ruled his death as a natural, and not caused by the accident.
