Photos Provided -- General Marion's Brigade Chapter along with DAR members were on hand at the annual service for Gen. Marion. --

Francis Marion remembered in 2013
A great service was recently held and two restored South Carolina Historical Markers unveiled at Belle Isle in Pineville to honor General Francis Marion, the historical Swamp Fox last month.
General Marion's Brigade Chapter, NSDAR conducted the annual Francis Marion Memorial Service to a crowd of over 50 people.
The Washington Light Infantry served as Color Guard.  South Carolina Department of Parks Dan Bell was the speaker.  John Mark McQuown sang "Proud to be an American.”
General Marion's Brigade Chapter placed a wreath at Marion's Tomb along with two other DAR chapters, Elizabeth Peyre Richardson Manning and Margaret Gregg Gordon.
Also attending were South Carolina Daughters of the American Revolution District VI Director Bettise Davidson, Francis Marion Symposium Founders George and Carole Summers, members of the Belle Isle Garden Club, Berkeley North and Berkeley County Historical Societies, historians Karen MacNutt and John Wiggins, and SGM John Evans of the Marion Marauders.
This is the 120th year since the granite monument was unveiled in 1893 to replace the broken box tomb on Marion's grave.
After the service, Bill Altice unveiled the two recently restored Marion markers. Thanks were offered to all of those who donated to this restoration, especially the South Carolina Society Sons of the American Revolution.
Thanks to DAR member Cathi Lee for sharing this historical information along with the pictures.
