SCDPS and Local SUBWAY® Restaurants Host W8 2 TXT Wednesdays

  • Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Troopers from the SC Department of Public Safety will be stationed at designated SUBWAY® restaurants for W8 2 TXT Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. in support of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April and to offer hands-on demonstrations about the dangers of distracted driving.
At W8 2 TXT Wednesdays, drivers can participate in an eye-opening golf cart safe driving demo with a Trooper. Free 6-inch subs will be provided for the first 25 people and reminder wristbands with the W8 2 TXT message will be available, while supplies last. The events are free and open to the public. Teens and parents especially are encouraged to drop by to learn more about safe driving.
W8 2 TXT Wednesdays are scheduled:
March 27 – 4 to 7 p.m. at SUBWAY® restaurant, 1000 Tanner Ford Blvd., Hanahan
April 10 – 4 to 7 p.m. at SUBWAY® restaurant, 162 Seven Farms Dr., Daniel Town Center, Daniel Island
April 17 – 4 to 7 p.m. at SUBWAY® restaurant, 5633 Dorchester Rd., Eden Oak Center, across from Dorchester Gardens Apartments, North Charleston
April 24 – 4 to 7 p.m. at SUBWAY® restaurant, 975 Bacons Bridge Rd., Galleria Shopping Center, Summerville
Local SUBWAY® restaurants and SCDPS have partnered to urge drivers to wait until they have stopped driving to read or send text messages. Distracted driving is a major safety risk on our roads and text messaging is by far the most alarming distraction. According to a Virginia Tech Transportation Institute Study, drivers who send text messages while driving are 23 times more likely to crash.
High-school students can also participate in a W8 2 TXT Pledge High School Competition now underway. By signing a virtual W8 2 TXT Pledge Wall, students can be counted in a high school challenge to win a $500 grant for safety programs and free subs for the school from SUBWAY® restaurants. Pledges will be accepted until midnight April 26. Visit SUBWAYW82TXT.com for contest details and official rules.
