Lady Knights knock off No. 4 Summerville
Stratford’s softball team won its fourth straight game on Monday and it was a victory that stands out.
The Lady Knights handed fourth-ranked Summerville 4-2, avenging a 9-7 loss to the Lady Green Wave from March 6.
“I’m just happy that we limited giving runs away tonight,” Stratford coach Debra Tolar said. “That’s been one of our biggest problems. I know we can play better than we have in some of our games.”
The win gives Stratford a 7-5 record heading into Wednesday’s Region 7-AAAA opener at home against Cane Cay. Of the 12 games, eight have been decided by three runs or less.
On Friday, the Lady Knights trailed 6-0 before rallying for a 9-7 win over Berkeley.
Against Summerville, they got out to a better start. After the Lady Green Wave scored on Summer Jenkins’ RBI double in the top of the first, Stratford responded with all four of its runs.
In the bottom of the first, Magan Thrower drove in the tying run with an infield single and Megan Johnson made it 2-1 with another RBI single.
Kayli Miles then drove in two runs with a single to give Stratford a 4-1 lead.
The only other scoring came in the top of the second when Anna Gluhosky singled in a run to slice Summerville’s deficit in half.
Johnson had three hits and Kayli Lehmer had two for the Lady Knights.
Kasie Red pitched the whole game for Stratford.
Taylor Wuerfel took the loss for Summerville.
After Cane Bay, the Lady Knights travel to Wando on Friday and host Blythewood on Saturday at 1 p.m.
