The Bonneau Takedown Club’s youth wrestling team recently completed its inaugural season, and did so with flying colors.
Formed back in December, the Bonneau grapplers teamed up with Timberland High School and began practice with nine wrestlers, dubbed the Bonneau Magic Nine.
Led by THS coach Ryan Rhoades and assistant Kreig Griffin, Bonneau competed in several tournaments, including meets in Moncks Corner, Irmo and The Citadel, placing wrestlers in the top three in every tournament in which they competed. .
At the Lower State Finals at Stratford High School on March 2, Bonneau’s DeMarco Gadsden took first place, Hunter Cales and Hunter Elswick each placed second, and Austin Nichols and Roman Wadford took home fourth place.
At the South Carolina Youth Wrestling Association State Championship this past weekend in Taylors, SC, Bonneau brought home three third place finishes: Austin Nichols in the 7-8 year old class, DeMarco Gadsden in the heavyweight division, and Hunter Elswick in the 9-10 class.
The team was sponsored by Napa Auto Parts of Moncks Corner, Nichols Construction, and Branks General Contracting.
