Berkeley County AKA’s to Participate in 60th Regional Conference

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will hold its 60th South Atlantic Regional Conference April 17 – 21 in North Charleston at the Convention Center.
More than 3,500 members from Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are expected to attend and deliver an economic impact of over $4 million to the local community.
During the conference, members will address economic, health, and social justice and human rights issues, and participate in a school supply collection to benefit local children whose parents are incarcerated.
A youth summit is also planned and will emphasize the importance of developing young people for leadership roles.
Members of the military will be honored for their service to our nation and persons who have made significant contributions in the community will be recognized.  Other special activities for family members, guests and the community are planned.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is the oldest Greek-letter organization, and was established in America by black women on Jan. 15, 1908, at Howard University.
Led by International President Carolyn House Stewart, the organization connects thousands of college-trained women who give of themselves to support community service projects and scholarship programs.
Hostess chapters for the South Atlantic Regional Conference consist of 16 graduate chapters and 11 undergraduate chapters from South Carolina and Georgia.
With a membership of over 260,000 women, the sorority has more than 972 chapters in the United States, the Caribbean, Canada, Germany, Japan, Korea and Africa.
The public is invited to attend the public meeting, scheduled for April 18 from 8 – 9:30 p.m., and the Ecumenical Service, April 21, 10 to 10:45 a.m., at the North Charleston Convention Center.

Prioleau Celebrates 41st Anniversary

Family, church members and friends came together on Feb. 24 to celebrate the 41 years of service to the Day Dawn Baptist Church Family by the Rev. Joshua Prioleau and wife Mrs. Better Prioleau.
The speaker for the special occasion was the Rev. Oscar Cash of Anderson Baptist Church in Moncks Corner.
The moving, loving and spirit-filled celebration was supported by a delicious full course meal, enjoyed by all in attendance.
The Day Dawn Baptist Church family feels extremely blessed to have been gifted by God to have the Rev. Prioleau as their Pastoral Leader and Shepherd. They are praying for his and his families continued good health and long life.
