Harlem Rockets coming to town March 8

  • Wednesday, March 6, 2013

The traveling comedy basketball troupe the Harlem Rockets are coming back to Moncks Corner.
The Rockets will appear in a game with the St. John’s Christian Academy legends on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the SJCA gymnasium.
Cavaliers Athletic Director Bob Winters said an evening watching the Harlem Rockets’ brand of basketball and comedy is a wholesome family fun night.
“Last year was our first Rocket's experience and I was not sure exactly what we were getting into,” he said. “As it turned out it was one of the best nights we have ever had here, a wholesome family fun night of basketball and comedy.”
The Rockets will tip off against the Cavalier Legends in a game benefiting the SJCA athletic department.
“This is a great entertainment value for a family night out, much less expensive than a movie and way more fun,” Winters said. “This event has my 100-percent endorsement for people of all ages.”
According to a Harlem Rockets press release, the Rockets, having played over 2,500 games in 16 years without a single defeat, offer something for everyone to enjoy.
Basketball aficionados will be dazzled by the ball-handling wizardry of Clarence “Mugsy” Leggett. Mugsy is one of the world’s extraordinary dribblers and a former Harlem Globetrotter. Satiated by the game of Devon “The Peoples Choice” Curry and left awestruck by high-flying dunks of Cliff “Jet Blue” Malone, who was featured in the Nike commercial released on Super Bowl Sunday.
The Harlem Rockets incorporate the audience, especially children, into the show and are always available to meet the fans and give autographs at halftime and after the game.
In this special event to raise money for SJCA, the Legends have graciously agreed to face the Harlem Rockets. The Legends players include Robby O’Dell, Chris Pouyat, Bill McCall and many other LBA and SJCA greats
Tickets for what promises to be a fun-filled evening for the community are available at the St. John’s main office by contacting Kelly O’Dell, or at the door on Saturday night. Other sponsors for this event are Charleston House  Hunter and JBW Services.
