Use your time wisely

  • Wednesday, March 6, 2013

Do you have any idea how fast time is moving and how quickly we are going through the year? It has never been clearer to me than now, that time does not stand still.
I remember learning in school that time waits for no man. No matter what we think, or say, or do, time marches on. We cannot do anything to stop it or change it; but we can manage it.
How well have you used your time so far this year? Do you have anything to show for it? Can you point to any specific achievement thus far?
It hasn’t got to be something great or earth shattering, but something you can identify as a product of judicious use of your time.
I know someone who is reading through the bible. They have given up some television time and some phone time for this special project. Someone else is slowly working on a how-to booklet that they believe will be of help to others. One lady has decided that she wants to improve her culinary skills so she is researching, collecting, organizing, and experimenting with various recipes. The goal is to eventually put together her collection in the form of a book.
None of these pursuits is earth shattering, but just a conscientious effort to be productive beyond the everyday sameness of life.
Some people invest themselves in others trying to help them become better in some way. It could be something as simple as coaching a little league soccer team, or volunteering to tutor someone for a few hours each week, but you are doing something beyond what you have to do such as going to work and it will pay dividends in the long run or even at present.
When you think of things to do, think of things that will make you better. I can’t make a choice for you. But don’t forget that the best investment you can make is an investment in making yourself a better person, or helping someone else to become a better person in some way.
When you work on yourself, you are providing better company for the person you have to live with; a man or woman called ‘you.’
