Air Force Association meeting March 8
The Air Force Association Charleston Chapter quarterly general membership meeting will be held Friday, March 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (lunch at 11 a.m.) at The Charleston Club, Joint Base Charleston. 2012 AFA South Carolina Teacher of the Year Amy Baldwin is the guest speaker.
Meeting is open to AFA members and non-members with base access privileges.
Alzheimer’s support groups continue
 The local Alzheimer’s Association has three caregiver support groups in the area held at different locations on the second Monday of each month.
Locations are the Goose Creek library (5:30-6:30 p.m.) on Old Moncks Corner Road, Moncks Corner Medical Center (11 a.m – noon) on N. Live Oak Drive, and the Otranto Road library (1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) in North Charleston.

Art Guild show under way
 The Berkeley Art Guild show at Cypress Gardens is under way and will continue through March 3. The exhibit features works of oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels of local artists, with some prints and originals for sale. 
The show is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

PTA auction March 8
Hanahan Elementary School has announced a PTA auction on March 8. A silent auction begins at 5 p.m., performances will take place from 6:30 to 7, and a live auction begins at 7 p.m.
‘Breath of Spring’ March 1-3
The Breath of Spring Flower Show at Cypress Gardens will be March 1-3 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily.
The show’s theme this year is “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” with Daffodils, Camellias and other flowering plants.
Creative flower arrangements include table designs, door arrangements, and miniatures designs. Entries can be made Feb. 28 from 8-11 a.m.

Canning Coaches wanted
Become a Clemson Extension Canning Coach.
Canning Coaches are canners experienced in boiling water canning of acid food like fruits and pickles, and pressure canning of low-acid foods like vegetables, meats, fish, and poultry. This year’s Canning Coach training will take place in March.

3K run March 9
Lace up your running shoes and put on your St. Patrick’s green and come out for the Shamrock Run – a 3K fun run and walk on Saturday, March 9.The race begins at 9 a.m. at the Goose Creek Community Center.
The run and walk is open to all runners, walkers and families. Get a group together and make it a fun fitness morning. The entry fee for the Shamrock Run is $18 with a run T-shirt, or $10 without a shirt.  There will be prizes for the top finishers.

VFW Steak Night continues
VFW Post 10256/Ladies Auxiliary at 104 Stephanie Drive in Goose Creek holds Steak Night on the fourth Saturday of each month from 6-8 p.m.
Dinner includes one rib-eye steak or chicken with baked potato, salad and a vegetable, and Texas toast. Cost is $10 eat-in, and $11 carryout. Guests are welcome.

Tax aid sessions announced
AARP Tax Aid sessions have been scheduled at the Berkeley County Library Goose Creek and Farmers and Merchant Bank in Moncks Corner (221 East Main Street), on Monday and Thursday from 9:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment at Farmer’s and Merchant. Free wellness classes continue
Roper St. Francis Families for a Healthy Heart program teaches easy ways to be healthy and active. The program is offering a series of free wellness classes to be held at Howe Hall AIMS school in Goose Creek through April.
“Fats: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” a focus on cholesterol and heart disease, will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9. Other classes are March 21, April 11 and April 27.
Republican Women meeting March 4
The next Berkeley County Republican Women meeting is set for 7 p.m. on Monday, March 4.
Professor and Attorney Ginny Shuman will speak on the subject of the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012.
Meetings are held at the Berkeley Electric Co-op in Goose Creek on 2 Springhall Drive. The meetings are open to the public, and memberships are also available.

Hispanic ‘Women’s Day’ program March 8
Hispanic women will celebrate “International Women’s Day” at the Holiday Inn Express in Summerville on March 8.
The event will feature Dr. Maria Cordova, Luz Alvarado, Lydia Cotton, Paula Tejeda, Eyda Arroyabe, Patricia McBride and a presentation about emotional intelligence and transformation by the psychologist and life coach Nilsy Rapalo.
The event will be entirely in Spanish and women will have a chance to celebrate their femininity with us.

CBHS Relay for Life events announced
 The Lower Berkeley Relay for Life is set for 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., May 3–4 at Cane Bay High School.
The school is hosting several events leading up to the Relay night:

Roper execs to address GOP on March 2
The Berkeley County Republican Party Breakfast will meet on Saturday, March 2, at American Legion Post 166 (116 Howe Hall Road in Goose Creek).
The guests speakers will be David Dunlap, the president and chief executive officer Roper St. Francis Healthcare, and Roper CEO John Sullivan. In addition, a straw poll is planned for the First Congressional race that is ongoing now.

First Steps to hold meeting, election
The Berkeley County First Steps Partnership Board encourages the public to attend its annual meeting at 6 p.m. on March 14 in the Berkeley County School District boardroom at 229 East Main St. Moncks Corner. 
Berkeley County residents who attend can learn more about the results of the First Steps to School Readiness program in the county as well as future plans.  In addition the board will elect new members. 
The Berkeley County First Steps Partnership Board encourages the public to submit nominations to the Berkeley County First Steps Board of Trustees.  Nominees should reside or be employed in Berkeley County.

Republican Party precinct reorganization March 9
The Berkeley County Republican Party will reorganize all voter precincts on Saturday March 9, beginning at 1 p.m.  
The precinct reorganization meeting is the opportunity for each precinct to choose their officers and Berkeley County Executive Committee Member.
A make-up meeting for all precincts is scheduled for March 18, and will be held at Berkeley Electric Co-op Meeting Room, 2 Springhall Road in Goose Creek, at 7 p.m. If you have any questions about precinct location please call Nancy Corbin at 688-4975.
