Lowcountry Orphan Relief announces “Shine, Shimmer and Shag,” the inaugural fundraiser for this local nonprofit serving abused, abandoned and neglected children throughout the tri-county area.
Shine, Shimmer and Shag is being held Saturday April 6 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Memminger
Auditorium (56 Beaufain St.,Charleston). Tickets are $75 per person and include: dancing to the original versions of your favorite beach music (DJ SaturDave of Crescendo Entertainment), complimentary shag lessons (Beach Music and Shag Preservation Society of S.C. and Arthur Murray Dance Studios), on-site photography (Bell Digital Media) heavy appetizers, wine, beer and soft drinks. A pre-sale of various auction items will take place online at www.lowcountryorphanrelief.org. Nationally renown Charleston artist Robert Maniscalco (www.maniscalcogallery.com) is donating a custom portrait (found in the event’s online auction) and a performance painting (painted during Shine, Shimmer and Shag). Attendees will be able to purchase chances to own this work of art with proceeds benefitting Lowcountry Orphan Relief.
“Lowcountry Orphan Relief gave clothing, shoes, underwear and personal necessities to approximately 3,000 abandoned, abused or neglected children who were removed from their homes in emergency situations during 2012.There are more than 63 local agencies who depend upon Lowcountry Orphan Relief to provide these items for the children in their direct care. We have has also placed and maintain emergency closets in 23 Title I schools.” shares Dr. James Freston, chair of the Lowcountry Orphan
