Valentine’s Day was last week, and it is nearly always a challenge for most men.
Taking her out to dinner or bringing her flowers seems to be the easiest thing to do without having to think. For those with a ready checkbook, a piece of jewelry or her favorite perfume seem like sure winners.
But suppose you have exhausted those options or you really want to do something different or put some more thought into what you do?
Here are a few things you can do whether it’s Valentine’s Day or not.
Remember that she is the most important person in your life. If she is not there yet, treat her as if she will be. There is nothing like making a woman feel important wanted and valued.
That means where ever you go and whatever you do make sure she has your undivided attention no matter who else is in the room. It also means turning off or putting your cell phone on vibrate.
It does not impress her that you are always getting calls. That kind of activity is a big turn off and disrespectful.
If you are going to give her flowers, with few exceptions, sending her flowers is more impressive than bringing her flowers. It’s a status symbol in the office. It shows the world she has somebody who cares about her without her having to advertise it herself.
It gives her a sense of pride that you are so thoughtful.
Leave her a few love notes. Be creative. Keep her guessing what you are up to.
Because you have been married longer than you can remember is no reason that you can’t treat her like she is your sweet sixteen.
Cook for her. Get one of her friends or family members to delay her getting home and ask for the opportunity to leave work early and go to town preparing for her. Decorate the bedroom; create some ambience in the kitchen.
Some people might not do a good job, but the effort you made, the opportunity she had to laugh at you and the fact that you cared enough to try is worth it all.
Take her for a three-hour (I think that’s the minimum time you can get) limousine ride across the city and arrange for her favorite drinks to be on hand even if it is sparkling apple cider.
Find out beforehand some sights she would like to see and have the limo take you there. What a delight to cruise through Charleston with no traffic problems.
You don’t have to buy diamonds and jewelry that you can’t afford for her to appreciate you. Get corny, get creative, get connected and enjoy each other. Make every day Valentine’s Day in your relationship.
